Sidra Owens Author Talk Announced

University Libraries will host an author talk by Sidra Owens on April 13, 2018 from 2 - 4 pm in the Hodges Reading Room on the second floor of Jackson Library.

A Greensboro native, Owens has spent the entirety of her life in the heart of the Piedmont. It is from this deep-rooted sense of Southern living that she draws inspiration for her first novel, A Haven Amidst Perdition. Set in the 1940s, her protagonist, Eve, a mixed-race girl, comes of age “in the deep country” and finds her predators many and options few.

Owens will read selected sections from her text and then open the floor for a timely discussion on race, gender and power as they function in her work and modern society.

Dr. Armondo Collins, Head of the Digital Media Commons, will introduce the author and moderate the audience Q&A. Refreshments will follow.
