Reduced Operations for COVID-19

University Libraries is currently working with UNCG's Office of Emergency Management and other UNC System schools by following the Governor's guidelines and executing the use of best practices for social distancing and the use of Community Protective Equipment (CPE) in a continued effort to reopen the libraries.

A phased reopening of the University Libraries will include the following:
  • Now through Friday, July 10, building access for University Libraries' employees only via Spartan Card tap/swipe will continue.  
  • Monday, July 13 – Friday, July 31, building access will be expanded to the Tower side ONLY to University-affiliated faculty, staff and students via Spartan Card tap/swipe.
    • University-affiliated patron access hours will be Mondays – Fridays 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Monday, August 3 – Friday, August 14, building access will be expanded to the Main building with the College Avenue and Connector doors open to the public.
    • Public access hours remain Mondays – Fridays 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Beginning Saturday, August 15, regular fall hours will be:
    • Public access hours – Mondays – Thursdays 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Fridays 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturdays 12 noon – 5 p.m.; Sundays 12 noon – 9 p.m.
Services available to faculty and staff will include the following: 
  • Reference services are available currently and will continue to be available virtually
  • Library instruction will be provided virtually either asynchronously or synchronously for your classes, please see a liaison for more information
  • Library liaisons are available to assist with finding ebooks, articles, as well as reserves materials   
  • The Martha Blakeney Special Collections and University Archives will be available by appointment only. Please email for more information
  • The College Avenue Welcome Desk and the Reference Desk will use chat stations for assistance and general information 
  • Self-checkout will be available
  • Chat stations will be available 
  • Use of indoor and outdoor book drops is encouraged for returning materials 
  • The code of conduct for patrons will be updated to follow COVID-19 policy
  • The number of computers and seating have been reduced to allow for social distancing 
Spaces in late July on the Tower side of Jackson Library will include the following: 
  • All persons entering the building MUST WEAR FACE COVERINGS as required by UNC Greensboro campus guidelines
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be available to patrons at the entrances
  • Students are expected to keep a social distance of 6 feet between each other while in the library
  • No room reservations will be taken for individuals or groups 
  • Water fountains will be used at your own risk; there are no plans to turn them off or disable them
  • Housekeeping will do sweeps through the day periodically to sanitize common touchpoints and restrooms
  • Sanitary wipes will be placed in technology areas
  • No more than four (4) people in the Tower elevator at a time
  • No more than one (1) person in the Jackson Main elevator at a time
  • Sneeze guards will be deployed at modified service points to be staffed with limited persons
  • Stanchions will be used to direct lines of service points
  • Directional arrows will be used at the Connector and College Avenue entrances
  • Social distancing markers will be used to distance patrons throughout the building
  • Areas of the building may close periodically for cleaning purposes as needed
  • Please limit food brought onto the premises
